Our Story

A Legacy of Family Farming Since 1865

For over 150 years, the Schmidt family has been nurturing the same precious farmland, with Roger proudly carrying on the family tradition as the sixth generation. Growing up alongside his father Herbie, Roger learned every aspect of farm life - from tending to animals to working the land and milking cows. When Herbie decided to retire from dairy farming in 2001, Roger saw an opportunity to write the next chapter in the Schmidt family story by transitioning to beef cattle.

Today, the farm embraces modern regenerative practices while honoring traditional values. We use no-till drilling, cover crops, and rotational grazing to keep our soil rich and healthy for future generations. Every bit of feed for our animals is produced right here on our land, giving us complete control over what goes into raising them.

Farming remains a true family affair, with Roger's wife Deanna and their children deeply involved in daily operations. The kids proudly show their animals at the Washington County Fair, while Deanna serves as co-leader of the Wayne Crusaders 4H Club, helping nurture the next generation of young farmers.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Farming

We believe in being responsible stewards of the land. Our regenerative practices, including cover crops and no-till drilling, naturally replenish soil nutrients while preventing erosion. Through rotational grazing, our animals contribute to this cycle, naturally fertilizing the soil while staying healthy themselves.

What sets us apart is our commitment to raising animals from birth to processing - a rarity in today's beef and pork industry. While it requires more work, this approach allows us to carefully oversee their genetics, care, and nutrition from day one.

Supporting Our Community

The Schmidt Family Farm Store proudly features not just our own products, but also treasures from our local community.
